Welcome to our Blog

Searching for the perfect house, crossing the minefield of estate agents, solicitors and mortgage companies; how to strip an entire house of woodchip wallpaper and change a fuse- this is our guide to buying and owning your first house.

Last January we began searching for our own house after moving back with parents (for 2 whole years!!!) to save up for the dreaded house deposit. Well after wasting some of our newly-found disposable income going here:

And a few months later going on a 3 week tour and getting engaged here:

We finally had enough money for a measly deposit and after 6 months of searching, and being let down by mortgage companies and property developers we finally bought this little house, which needed complete (and I mean complete!) renovation:

During the search for the house, I trawled the Internet for help and advice for all things like how to put an offer forward on a house (without offending the owners or ending up paying too much!) and what to look out for when viewing   and although I found most of the stuff I was looking for- it was all in different places and searches very often led to US sites, which although helpful isn't always going to relate in the UK.

So from 2 very naive young people who have somehow managed to grab the bottom rung of the property ladder within the last year (after encountering every possible obstacle), we hope this blog can be a guide to all things house buying and renovating thereafter!
